Questions farmers ask

What is the latest arecanut (pakku) rate at Gobi and Bhavani?

The price cards at the top show each mandi's latest auction rate per kg for all four stages — pacha pakku, pala pakku, vara pakku and kotta pakku (chali) — with the auction date. They come from KITE Agro's own records of the Gobi (Gobichettipalayam) and Bhavani arecanut auctions in Erode district, Tamil Nadu, and update automatically within about 30 minutes of each new auction being added.

When are the Gobi and Bhavani arecanut auctions held?

Gobi usually holds its arecanut auction on Tuesday and Bhavani usually on Friday, so there are normally two new prices each week. The date next to each price is the actual auction date.

Is the arecanut price per kg or per quintal?

Per kg. To compare with Karnataka APMC rates, which are per quintal (100 kg), multiply by 100 — for example ₹350 per kg is ₹35,000 per quintal.

Why does chali (kotta pakku) sometimes show “Not traded”?

It means no chali was sold at that auction, so there is no price for that day. The page then shows the last rate at which chali did trade at that mandi, with its date.

What is the difference between pacha pakku, pala pakku, vara pakku and kotta pakku?

They are the four trade stages of arecanut in Tamil Nadu. Pacha pakku is the raw green fruit straight from the palm. Pala pakku is the ripe yellow fruit. Vara pakku is ripe fruit dried in the sun. Kotta pakku, also called chali or supari, is the dehusked dried nut — the final and highest-priced stage. More names in other languages: arecanut in Tamil, English and other languages.

How can I get arecanut prices on WhatsApp?
