Understanding the Market

What Affects Coconut Price in Erode?

Coconut and copra prices move market to market and week to week for a handful of concrete reasons, not just general "market conditions":

Quality and size grading. A fresh coconut's water content, kernel thickness and overall size all move its price at auction — traders grade on sight, and a lot with more small or damaged nuts sells for less regardless of the going rate that day.

Sulphuring. Copra is either sulphur-fumigated (Sulphured) to preserve a lighter color and resist storage pests, or left untreated (Unsulphured). Buyer preference for one over the other shifts by season and by which oil mills are buying that week — this is a real, separate price line, not a minor variant.

Distance to processing. Markets closer to oil mills and copra processing units (like Kangayam, just across the border in Tiruppur district) often see tighter competition among buyers, which can push prices up relative to more remote markets.

Arrivals. A heavier harvest week means more supply at auction, which typically softens prices; a lean week does the opposite. This is why the per-market tiles above show the auction date next to each price — a rate from a light-arrival day and a heavy one aren't really comparable.

Coconut Price FAQ

What is the coconut price in Erode today?

KITE Agro publishes a live coconut price for Erode district, Tamil Nadu, sourced directly from trader reports across 16 markets. The price is shown as a real min–max range across markets (not a single blended average), broken down by variety — Fresh Coconut, Copra Grade A/B, Sulphured and Unsulphured. See the market tiles above for today's figures.

What is the difference between Fresh Coconut and Copra price?

Fresh Coconut is the whole nut as harvested, sold soon after picking. Copra is the dried coconut kernel, extracted and sun- or smoke-dried for oil extraction and storage — it trades at a much higher price per kg than fresh coconut because of the processing and the concentrated oil content. Copra is further split into Grade A and Grade B by quality, and Sulphured (treated to preserve color) versus Unsulphured, which can carry different rates.

Which Erode market has the highest coconut price?

This changes daily depending on which markets auctioned and the quality/quantity that came in. The market tiles above show each market's own latest reported rate, and the one with the highest maximum price carries a "Highest" badge (use the Coconut or Copra filter to compare like with like).

Is Sulphured or Unsulphured Copra more expensive?

It varies by market and buyer demand — Sulphured Copra is treated with sulphur fumigation to preserve a lighter color and resist pests during storage, which some buyers pay a premium for, while Unsulphured Copra is untreated. Check the variety/grade table above for the current spread between the two in Erode.

How often does the coconut price in Erode change?

Most Erode markets report weekly on their fixed auction day; a few report daily. Prices can move report to report based on arrivals, quality, and demand — this page updates automatically as new trader reports come in, so the date shown next to each market's rate is its real most recent auction, not a fixed schedule.

When and where are copra auctions held in Erode district?

Most Erode regulated sale yards hold their copra auction once a week — for example Anthiyur, Elumathur and Kodumudi on Monday, and Poothappadi and Sathyamangalam on Tuesday. Perundurai CMS holds a copra auction on Wednesday and Saturday, with a tender close of 1:00 PM. See the full schedule with bag drop-off windows.

What is the coconut price per kg vs per quintal in Erode?

Most Erode markets quote coconut and copra prices per kilogram, but some report in ₹/quintal (100 kg). This page normalizes every price to ₹/kg for comparison across markets, while keeping piece-rate items (like whole fresh coconuts sold by count) in their own separate bucket — kg and piece prices are never mixed together.
